12 Essential Reasons You NEED to Go to Bed Early to be SUCCESSFUL

We all do it.  We stay up late from time to time, burning the midnight oil.  Some of us are working on deadlines, others of us feel like if we go to bed before midnight then we’re turning into our parents, while others just have restless minds that keep us awake all night.  But going to bed early is not only a sign of a mature, confident, well rounded person, it’s the sign of a successful individual.  Going to bed early is a life changing habit that one must acquire to help them on the road to success and here’s why you need to get some Z’s if you plan on living a successful life:

1. Repair & Recovery.

This one is obvious.  Your body needs to sleep for it’s physical repair and recovery.  You need 8-10 hours of sleep (and sometimes more) to stay functioning to your best ability.

2. You will get fat if you don’t.

If you stay up late, not only do you slow down your metabolism the more waking hours you have, the more chances you have to get hungry and consume more calories.  Sure it takes more calories to stay up later, but you’re going to get so hungry you’ll eat way more than you need, or needed for the day.  And sometimes you won’t make the best or healthiest choices late at night.  Eating before bedtime is a sure way to pack on the pounds because your body doesn’t have a chance to burn what you’ve just eaten.  By going to bed early you save calories simply by not consuming.

3 Concentration.

Being well rested has a lot to do with your ability to concentrate.  You won’t be sharp and focused if your head is sleepy and blurry.  Getting to bed early will ensure you get enough sleep to start your day on point.

4. You will be able to get up early.

Studies show that people who get up early (but not necessarily have more waking hours than others who get up late and stay up late) actually are more productive and accomplish more.  Going to bed early will allow you to wake up early and get a head start on what you need to do.

5. Vitamin D & Sunshine.

You need these.  Your body has the ability to make it’s own vitamin D through getting enough sunlight.  If you stay locked in your room until the late afternoon and have waking hours comparative to a vampire, you are definitely not getting enough vitamin D.  Vitamin D is essential in maintaining healthy bones and teeth, support the health of the immune system, brain and nervous system, regulate insulin levels, support lung function and cardiovascular health and influence the expression of genes involved in cancer development.  In other words get to bed early so you can get up early and enjoy those golden rays of vital sunshine vitamins.

6. Stress and Anxiety Reduction.

Sometimes we stress the most when we are alone at night, are overthinking things and not getting enough sleep.  We freak out when we are at a time of day where we can’t do anything about a stressful situation but let it eat away at us.  This is the best time to shut it down for the night, and get some rest.  Tomorrow is a new day.

7. Insomnia and Sleep issues.

Sometimes staying up late can cause sleep issues.  You keep your mind activated by watching TV or reading a book and before you know it it’s 3 am and you have to be to work by 8 am.  You mess up your external clock by having irregular sleep hours.  Get to bed early and at a regular time to avoid messing up your sleep wake cycle needed to start each day fresh.

8. Hormone Balance.

This has a lot to do with stress and sleep issues.  As you sleep and wake, or if you are fatigued or stressed, your body’s hormones get out of whack.  Getting to bed early allows your body to reset itself and function properly and get your chemistry in order.

9. Energy.

You can’t be productive if you don’t have energy.  You also can’t rely on 5 cups of coffee to give you that energy.  The excess caffeine will make you reliant and immune and eventually stop working.  If you lack energy you need to make sure you get to bed early so that you wake up each morning rested.

10. Mood Improvement.

We’re all grumpy when we are tired.  You’re more likely to be irritable or moody when you haven’t gotten enough sleep.

11.  You will look better.

Lack of sleep will take it’s toll on your body.  There is not only merit but actual science behind getting your “beauty sleep”.

12. Disease fighting and prevention.

Your body needs to repair and fight as well as prevent diseases.  It does this best while you are sleeping.  Fatigue is one of the first ways to harm your immune system so getting to bed early so that you can get your solid REM sleep is essential to maintaining your health on a day to day basis.
