A Positive Attitude: More than just happy thoughts

The glass is half full.  When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.  There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.  When one door closes, another one opens.   We say these quotes to remind ourselves to stay positive.   Having a positive attitude is an important tool to getting through the hardest times in life.  Believing there is a bright side, believing that you can overcome adversity, believing that you can be the best, and believing simply that you can make the impossible possible is most often the difference between those who dream, those who try and fail and those who achieve.

Having a positive attitude is more than just thinking happy thoughts.  If that was the case, we’d only just need a little fairy dust and we would be flying on our way.   A positive attitude is a mental state of mind that works in wondrous ways to make the unbearable bearable, and the unbelievable believable.

Having a positive attitude doesn’t mean that you ignore your problems, or pretend they don’t exist… it means you take an open and active mind to solving your problems.   You develop an optimism in your state of being that centers around your willingness to try hard and put in an effort to succeed, to take a chance, and to do anything it takes to succeed – instead of simply believing it will not work, it cannot be done, and it is not possible.   You find a motivation and a drive within yourself to keep moving forward and to keep giving it everything you’ve got.

Having a positive attitude is not just shrugging things off when they don’t work out.  It’s accepting that you’ve done your best and that you are growing from your failures and  learning from your mistakes.   That even if you come up short, you are still proud you have come so far.

Having a positive attitude is not just surviving a tragedy, or a loss, or an unfortunate event, it’s the ability to thrive and move past it.  Not just smiling when you’re sad, or telling others you’ll be ok.   It’s about seeking out help when you need it, actively taking the right steps to become stronger, and having the energy to more forward toward a successful future, without sadness, disappointment or regret clouding your quality of life.

Having a positive attitude is not just being happy, it’s being grateful.  Grateful for what you do have, instead of sorry for what you don’t.  It’s being thankful for all aspects of your life, it’s opportunities, it’s chances, and experiences that have paved the way for you to not only enjoy life, but to achieve greatness.   It’s being content with who and what you are, and allowing your positive mindset to fuel your ambition, beliefs, dedication and hard work beyond limits you never thought possible.   More than just happy thoughts?  A positive attitude is a way of life.
