“Instead of giving myself reasons why I can’t, I give myself reasons why I can.”
Some of us have a constant inner dialog that has the ability to psych ourselves out when things are intimidating. Feeding into negative thoughts is not only the easiest way to not be able to achieve something, it is quite possible that it can discourage you from trying all together. Stop thinking about all of the things you lack, or that are negative and focus in on the positive things only. Want to try out for the football team at school but don’t think you have a shot because you’re not fast enough, you’re not tall enough, and there are students who out-perform you? Why not think about the good things – You have a great shot because you’ve practiced all summer and will put all of your effort into becoming the best that you can be. You are a good teammate and listen and work with other team members well. You’ve grown 2 inches this summer. You will work harder than any other player on the team. You have a positive attitude that is completely unstoppable, both on the field and off. Change the conversation and remind yourself about all the good qualities within you.
